*GO LIGHT YOUR WORLD was the theme for LIGHTFEST Reignited held at St. Augustine Catholic Church on a brisk, bright Autumn Saturday.
Education and awareness was provided for attendees on the issues facing those vulnerable to poverty, hunger and homelessness while participating in various activities including health and wellness activities. To read more and see pictures about the event, go here.

November 3, was a Brilliantly Bright Autumn Day, where education and awareness was provided regarding issues faced by those vulnerable to poverty, hunger and homelessness while offering various activities for all that attended.

LIGHTFEST Re-Ignited—Love Lights Broadway provided an opportunity for organizations and people throughout the Louisville community to join together to share vital information and resources about poverty, hunger and homelessness at St. Augustine Catholic Church bringing together a diverse group together to share one commonality—HOPE

On November 2, “Sunshine” Joe Mallard will provide a LIGHTFEST Re-Ignited “Portrayal of Hope” presentation for the Global Game Changers afterschool “Discover Your Superpower” Program for At-Risk Students from JCPS’s Young Elementary, at the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, KY.

On November 5, 2016, there will be a new activity introduced at LIGHTFEST Re-Ignited–Portrayal of Hope.
We are very excited about our reconnecting with Sunshine Joe Mallard. He has design a commemorative piece for LIGHTFEST Re-Ignited 2016 LIGHTFEST Station in Louisville, where participants will be provided the opportunity to embroidery their names into the Portrayal of Hope Tapestry.
Sunshine Joe Mallard is one of American’s premier Creative Embroidery craftsmen. He has been embroidering for more than 40 years.
Portrayal of Hope
As we take the message of HOPE Around the World—We Survive asks that everyone join this journey to create a Portrayal of Hope Project at his or her school, workplace or organization.
We may not always comprehend that poverty can be an entanglement of multiple circumstances. As we send messages of inspiration and hope around the world, We Survive and “Sunshine Joe” would like to see you incorporate HOPE into your daily lives and reach out to your community, city and the world at large bringing awareness to the issues of poverty, those susceptible to poverty, hunger and homelessness.

A total of 60 guests and volunteers spent a fun afternoon at Haven of Hope last Saturday. Volunteers included princesses, a super hero and individuals from Girl Scouts, the Kentucky Division of Forestry and local families. The families enjoyed hearing stories, playing games, exploring the creek, hiking and completing arts and crafts. After time at Haven of Hope, the group traveled to Bloomfield for a tree dedication. The murals of hope that were painted at the last Day of Hope in November 2015 were on display at this event. To read more about the event go here.

PajamaFest — a LIGHTFEST Re-Ignited Activity kicked off their 2015 pajama and book drive on November 7

PajamaFEST Donations from Louisville Pharmacy
A book and pajamas can make a tremendous impact in a child’s life. The Center for Women and Families received over 50 pairs pajamas and a bunch of books from the following local area businesses: Louisville Pharmacy, Garrett-Stotz Company and Louisville Marriott Downtown. The three businesses collected the books and pajamas as part of 2015 PajamaFest.
We are very grateful to all the participants for the first PajamaFest, a LIGHTFEST Re-Ignited initiative.
There will be a 2016 PajamaFest. This cycle will run through February 10. Pajamas and books collected will be distributed for Valentine’s Day.
What a perfect time to give HOPE from the Heart.

PajamaFest is providing warm sleepwear for local children in need. Local shelters are receiving donations, the first of which came from Beacon Community Credit Union. Penny Haseker, CEO Beacon Community Credit Union, presented pajamas and books to Haven House Services in Jeffersonville, IN on December 4, 2015.
Penny and her staff collected over 50 pairs of pajamas and over 30 books for the children at Haven House homeless shelter.
Hope | Pajamas and a book states, “A simple gift of a pair of pajamas and a book can make a lifetime impact on a child and the family.”

LIGHTFEST Re-Ignited Mural Design & Poetry Project – November 7, 2015
Hosted by Act Out for Kids and We Survive
Youth are invited to submit a design for a mural that can be painted in a local school or neighborhood by children and volunteers on Nov. 7, 2015. This project is taking place to brighten the lives of youth in honor of LIGHTFEST Re-Ignited. Please see the Requirements document for more information about requirements and how to submit.

Firehouse Fest – May 9, 2015
The first Firehouse Fest on Saturday, May 9 was a great success! As noted by Sharon Cecil on the “Speaking Intergenerationally” blog, “Participants visited an historic firehouse and provided with valuable information for health, wellness and mental well-being.”
Participants also enjoyed working with Chef Jess decorating cupcakes, cookies and donuts for the bake sale to sponsor impoverished children to attend a Day of Hope camp.

LIGHTFEST Re-Ignited Project – Beacon of Hope Lighthouse breaks ground
On July 12, 2014 We Survive’s Beacon of Hope Project broke ground for a Lighthouse to greet visitors when they enter the driveway crossing the ridge to Haven of Hope.
Lauren D., a high school student, was one of those people who just needed hours for her school service project.
Lauren states, “In the beginning, this service project was just another school assignment. I had no idea what I was in for.
At first, I didn’t really know the point of the lighthouse. After talking with Sharon Cecil, I realized the lighthouse is a symbolic representation of hope that children will first see when they drive up to Haven of Hope. The lighthouse will be turned on when they first come in for the day and then turned off when they leave.
I hope this lighthouse I build for them will be something they will remember when they leave and that it helps put a smile on their face. I love being able to make people happy. Life can sometimes be rough and the last thing anyone would want to lose is hope.
I believe the lighthouse will inspire these children to keep moving forward even in times of hardship. I love that the children will be able to experience nature and a sense of peace when they look back on this memory of a Day of Hope at Haven of Hope.
I am hoping that by building this lighthouse, I can help children and their families remember this experience because of the light that shines bright in their hearts that day, just as the lighthouse will shine.”
When youth become so dedicated with their Hopes and Dreams, it takes the focus off of the negative stereotyping that is placed on youth through societal views. Therefore shining a Light of HOPE on their positive efforts—there is HOPE for future generations.
